A 113.78-g (0.40 mol) sample of stearic acid was molten at 70 °C above its melting point in the reactor and a 16.27 g (0.20 mol) of zinc oxide (ZnO) was added to the molten stearic acid. The reaction was carried out above the melting point of ZnSt, at 140 °C and under atmospheric pressure.
